Do we really need a monarch?

I was in a history lesson yesterday and the topic digressed from French revolution to why do we have a queen and is she really important. I have come to the conclusion that a monarch is outdated and we do not need a monarch to be proud of our culture. the Queen basicly has no political powers and doesnt do anything apart from wave to the crowd. i mean i am not against the queen i really like her. However i think that having a monarch is a really outdated way of running the country and we could do with a change.

while i certainly would not object to the removal of marmite, bovril or any other vegetable/beef-extract products I would be interested to know what/who you propose to replace the Queen with?

Sounds like a good subject for our next debate!

wel, to answer you question nick i would like to replace the queen with a parliament, that had no one leader. A group of people who decide how the country is ran. She can still wave to the crowd if she wants. why not make her a dutchess of something.
